Jaime Reyes & Moa · 2026
A generative artwork holding the colors of a Venezuelan coast — the sea, the sunrises, the light. Its palette was painted by Moa, the artist's daughter.

I needed a place to breathe was born out of a necessity to find solace after the devastating events in my birthplace of Venezuela, specifically in La Guaira and Caracas. Watching the destruction from afar, I needed to create a space where I could return to the La Guaira of my memory: a place where I could almost feel the coastal breeze, watch the sun set, and listen to the sounds of home.
This piece is a generative artwork, built entirely with code, but its soul is a collaboration between myself and my daughter, Moa. Because I am colorblind, I knew I could not accurately capture the visual warmth of my memories. Instead, I built the underlying structure and created a custom set of interactive sliders and tools for Moa. Though she has never been to Venezuela, she listened to my stories of the sunsets and the beaches. With her deep passion for color, she took control of the interface, translating my feelings and memories into the exact hues and gradients that define this piece.
This artwork is more than a visual landscape; it is a shared digital heritage, an act of healing, and a father-daughter dialogue written in code.
